What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep Apnea is the cessation of breathing (for 10 seconds or more) during sleep. There are 3 predominant types of sleep apnea: Obstructive, Mixed, Central. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the most common form and the hallmark symptom is snoring.
What is Narcolepsy?
Narcolepsy is a neurological condition that is characterized by the irresistible desire to sleep at times when sleep is not wanted or is not appropriate. This condition, when severe, can be very debilitating.
What Are the Symptoms of Narcolepsy?
The main chrematistic of narcolepsy is overwhelming excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). Even when the person gets an adequate amount of nighttime sleep, the fatigue may still linger. A person who suffers from Narcolepsy may take daytime naps without warning, as falling asleep may become irresistible. In addition, night-time sleep may become fragmented with frequent awakenings.
